CASE #

RENAMING OF I$3RD AVENUE N.W. AND
SUNFISH LAKE DRIVE N.W.
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

At the April meeting of the Road and Bridge Committee, one topic of discussion related to
alleviating confusion associated with the names of 153rd Avenue N.W. and Sunfish Lake
Drive N.W., two collector su'eets serving the City. The Committee decided to solicit input
from the public on potential names for these two streets by running an article in the Ramsey
Resident. The response to this article with regard to 153rd/155th resulted in an
overwhelming majority of 17 Ramsey residents responding in favor of the road being
renamed Northfork Drive. Other names which were suggested included Midway Road,
Sundance Drive, Sunwood Drive and Mount Rsm~ey Boulevard. One response was
received opposing the name change citing the inconvenience associated with any name
change.

With regard to Sunfish Lake Drive N.W., a total of three suggested names were received
by three separate individuals. Thorne Drive was suggested by an anonymous individual
who suggested that the name was that of the individual who created Sunfish Drive. The
anonymous individual indicated that Mr. Thorne was asked about this and did not object.

A letter, which is attached, was received from Mrs. Phyllis Scroggins, suggesting the road
be renamed Scroggins Road. Finally one resident of thc Sunny Ponds subdivision
suggested renaming the road Sunny Ponds Drive.

Recommendation:

The Committee may decide to recommend specific name changes to the Council, or it may
simply pass on the suggestions. A public hearing before the Council should be scheduled
in order for the name change to proceed. All persons adjacent to any section of the
roadway to be renamed should be ind/vidualty notified of the public hearing.

Committee Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer

R&B: 07/13/93

/
