Project Description <br /> <br />Alexandre House is planning to build a new emergency shelter facility <br />to meet the critical need for emergency housing and for community <br />advocacy for battered women and their famili.es i.n Anoka County. Plans <br />for the facility include 30 emergency beds, common living, dining and <br />cooking spaces. Also ~uded will be community advocacy space for <br />women I s and children/ youth programs, group and suppo=t: group meetings <br />rooms, communi~ outreach, in-::e.-ven-::ion and admir~s~ative o==ioes. <br /> <br />II. Proje~ Need <br /> <br />Domestic violence has long been a "r...i.dden" 0::- "s.:.len"t" ep~Qemic in <br />tP~s count=Y and is the leading cause of inju~ and death for women <br />~~esota and ~ the United States. As more people become educated <br />about the issue and more services become available more and more <br />victims come forward request~g assistance. <br /> <br />.; -. <br />-i..-...: <br /> <br />Domestic violence is clearly an :i.ntergenerational problem. <br />~ragically, violence as a way of l.:.fe in 'the family is passed on from <br />one generation to ~~e next. ~n a~ least half c= 'the families, <br />chilcrr-en as well as their mo~ers are physically abused.
