The budget included the following positions, which the City has hired
for or is in the process of hiring for: Patrol Officer (1 FTE), Building Inspector (.5 FTE), Fire
Inspector (.5 FTE), Public Works Maintenance Worker (1 FTE), and Information Technology
Manager (1 FTE). The City Council also approved an Engineering Technician II position to be
created in 2004. At this time, staff is requesting authorization to begin the recruitment process
for an Engineering Technician II position that may also perform public works maintenance
activities during the off season.

Public Works Director Kapler explained staff would like to look internal as a possible
advancement opportunity and possibly utilize the employee during the non-construction season
in the Maintenance Department. He explained this would bring in an employee with flexibility.
This would be an entry level survey inspection type person.

Personnel Committee/March 9, 2004
