Chairperson Cook inquired if they would be able to bring this person on sooner by utilizing this <br />process. <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed responded in the affirmative. <br /> <br />Chairperson Cook asked if there is interest by both management and staff. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler replied staff has not asked for a commitment, they have inquired <br />about interest. He explained the Principal City Engineer feels the City does have the talent <br />internally to fill this. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson inquired if someone else would need to be hired to fill the position that <br />would be vacated. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler responded in the affirmative. He explained the City will be <br />interviewing for an additional Public Works maintenance person this Friday. <br /> <br />Chairperson Cook inquired if there would be promotions through the ranks since the other <br />positions are union, which would result in the hiring of an entry level position. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler responded in the affirmative. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if this position was budgeted and questioned where the funds <br />would come from. <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed replied the position was budgeted and explained this would be <br />part of the general fund of 2004. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson inquired how much of the wage would be billed out. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler replied the majority of work would be charged against projects. <br /> <br />Chairperson Cook stated this is an excellent opportunity for both sides, and the best possible <br />scenario is if they have interested qualified people internally. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Kurak, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to recommend that the <br />City Council grant authorization to begin the recruitment process for an Engineering Technician <br />II. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
