Ms. Sylvia Frolik
City of Ramsey
Page Two

5

Intervention Program advocate will provide transportation
services if needed, i.e. to shelter, medical facilities, court
hearings.

Intervention Program advocate will attend criminal court
hearings and assist victims through the criminal court
process, as well as, mssist the prosecuting attorney in case
preparation.

Intervention Program advocate will provide follow-up support
services to victim.

The Intervention Program will provide initial and continued
training to all police officers on domestic abuse.

In 1992, Alexandra House provided emergency shelter and support
services to 699 women and their families. Forty-five percent (45%)
were from Anoka County. That was a sixty-one percent (61%)
increase from 1991. Community advocacy services that include
school presentations, assistance with filing Orders for Protection,
transportation, hospital advocacy services, Intervention Program
services and support groups were provided to over 6,500 persons.
Eighty-seven percent (8?8) were families from Anoka County.

A total of 822 women and their children/youth were from the City of
Ramsey.

Our current facility is extremely inadequate for the amount of
services that we provide. The bedrooms are too small to adequately
house families.

In addition, on-going maintenance costs are high due to inadequate
mechanical systems and insufficient durable finishes and
appliances. There is no separation between the community advocacy,
residential and administrative spaces. This situation makes it
difficult to provide adequate services and it violates the privacy
of women and children/youth seeking assistance. Community program
staff are located in a satellite office that costs Alexandra House
$12,000 per year to operate.

I look forward to providing Intervention services to the City of
Ramsey and to our partnership in building a new facility for
battered women and their children/youth.'-

I
I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
