Flashing signs are not permitted in any district except as <br />provided for in 9.12.03, Sub& 7 (General Provisions - Illumination). <br /> <br />Subd. 4 <br /> <br />Portable signs. Portable signs are prohibited except as temporary signs as <br />provided for in Section 9.12.05 (Temporary Signs). <br /> <br />Subd. 5 Projecting signs. No projecting sign shall be permitted in any district. <br /> <br />Subd. 6 Roof signs. Roof signs are prohibited in any zoning district. <br /> <br />Subd. 7 <br /> <br />Signs on parked vehicles. Signs painted or mounted on or attached to <br />vehicles, trailers or equipment where the apparent primary purpose of the vehicle or <br />equipment is to display said sign. However, this is not in any way intended to <br />prohibit signs placed on or affixed to vehicles and trailers, such as lettering on <br />motor vehicles, where the sign is incidental to the primary use of the vehicle, trailer <br />and/or any other type of mobile equipment. <br /> <br />Subd. 8 <br /> <br />Signs on trees and utility poles. Signs which are attached or otherwise <br />affixed to trees or other vegetation or utility poles are prohibited. <br /> <br />Subd. 9 <br /> <br />Signs painted on walls. Signs painted on an exterior wall, facia, parapet or a <br />chimney of a building or on a fence are prohibited. <br /> <br />Subd. 10 <br /> <br />Signs which imitate traffic control devices. Signs which imitate, interfere <br />with, obstruct the view of, or can be confused with any authorized traffic control <br />sign, signal, or other device are prohibited. <br /> <br />9.12.05 TEMPORARY SIGNS <br /> <br />The following are the only type of temporary signs permitted in any district unless other types are <br />specifically allowed in the individual zoning districts. <br /> <br />Subd. 1 <br /> <br />Balloons, gas filled figures, streamers, whirling devices and <br />revolving searchlights or any such sign resembling the same, are prohibited <br />from use within the city except for public events, or when used as an integral part <br />of the design of a building, or when used in conjunction with public events or <br />grand openings (the initial commencement of business). In the case of grand <br />openings or public events, these devices shall be allowed for the week only of said <br />public event or grand opening. <br /> <br />Subd. 2 <br /> <br />Political signs posted by a bona fide candidate for political office, or by a person <br />or group promoting a political issue or a political candidate may be placed in any <br />district upon acquisition of a temporary sign permit at a fee established by city <br />council resolution. Political signs axe limited to thirty-two (32) square feet in area <br />and such signs shall be removed within seven (7) days following the election. A <br />fixed fee per sign not removed within the seven (7) days following the election will <br />be established by the city council and will be used to defray the cost of removal. <br /> <br />Subd. 3 <br /> <br />Garage Sale and Craft Sale signs. Advertising and directional garage and <br />craft sale signs are limited to six (6) square feet and shall be of the free-standing <br /> <br />Page 7 of 19 <br /> <br /> <br />
