At the November 4, 1993 meeting, the Commission recommended that City Council
adopt the name of Riverdale Park for the park dedicated in conjunction with the Rivenwick
Subdivision.

The rationale for the Commission's choice is contained in the second paragraph of the attached
letter. It should be further noted that residents are occasionally dissuaded from using
neighborhood parks by the actual subdivision's residents who feel the park is exclusively theirs. A
non-subdivision name may discourage this notion. The first paragraph highlights the amenities
desired for the park and informs the developer that the Commission intends to request City Council
approve a line item budget for the park's development similar to Emerald Pond Park.

The attached park layout was also approved at the November 4, 1993 meeting. The name
"Rivenwick Park" was used for purposes of orientation.

Council Action:

Motion to approve the Park and Recreation Commission's recommendation to name the park at
Garnet Street N.W. and Riverdale Drive N.W.
