On Thursday, November 6, !993, the Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission met and approved the park plan previously transmitted to you. The plan shows three primary elements: a softball field, potential tennis court, and a tot lot arcs, Development will proceed following Staffs preparation of a line item budget and subsequent approval by City Council based upon the priorities and specific recommendations promulgated by the Park and Recreation Commission. It is intended that the backstop and players benches will be completed for the park early in the spring, with modular play equipment and ~adifional swing, sometime during the clement season of i994. The above are high priorities for this neighborhood park. The tennis court is also desired for the park. Its time tine for construction ~4._l.I be based., in part, upon thc residual dollars remaining from the above improvements in relation to park dedication dollars received with a total development budget of approximately $50,000. There will be incidental expencl2rures such as landscaping that will also need to come from the referenced budgeL The final item of potential interest to you is the official recommendation of a name for the par~:. The CiD,, as a matter of r)ohcy, names parks for either the subdivision that contains them or other significant geographical 'or natural resources related to them. tn this case, the Park and Recreation Commission chose the name of Riverdalc Park because of the proximit3, and significance of Riverdale Drive N.W. to the park, plus they felt the name R/verdale implied a "River" connotation to the park that the subdivision name did not as thoroughly ~drtress. In addition, the u-aid ultimately planned for along R.iverdale Drive N.W. may logically be called Riverdale Trail.. Thus, another connection.
