Programs for Handicapped - hearing impaired and mentally handicapped. <br /> <br />Senior Citizens outings. <br /> <br />Parenting classes. <br /> <br />Support for the K-4 program - Volunteers, Special programs for kids, <br /> funds for staging equipment, AV equipment, computers, playground <br /> equipment. <br /> <br />Providing facilities for local community groups - Brownies, Girl Scouts, <br /> Cubs, Boy Scouts, Church Groups, Rec Groups, Saddle Club, 4-H Groups, <br /> RYAAprograms, Hockey groups, Dance Groups, Youth Recreation Groups. <br /> <br />Employment Opportunities - Pre-school instructors, Youth instructors, <br /> Adult Education instructors. <br /> <br />Community Education "Process": <br /> <br />Opportunities for individuals to grow and succeed, learn a new skill, <br /> teach a skill to others, share ideas, information, volunteer time. <br /> <br />Opportunities for community groups to organize, meet and contribute to the <br /> community. <br /> <br />Building a sense of community responsibility, community pride, community <br /> togetherness and belonging. Increasing individual and community selfworth. <br /> <br />Bringing people together to share common interests, concerns, ideas. <br /> <br />Summer Program: <br /> <br />100+ Tennis; 100+ Baseball; 100+ Morning Playground; 75 Pre-schoolers; <br />Afternoon playground, Computer Camp, Art Classes, Archer, Teen Softball." <br /> <br />Councilmember Reimann reiterated that those benefitting from the program should <br />pay for it and noted that it had been previously discussed that the summer <br />program should become more self supporting. <br /> <br />Mr. Hadley replied that the summer participation fee was raised to $7.00 <br />and participation enrollment decreased by 50, although he cannot say for sure <br />the decrease in interest was because of the fee increase. Mr. Hadley agreed <br />that users should pay for what they get but noted that he has also heard from <br />the School District that children will become contributors as a result of <br />these enrichment activities and the positive feelings they get about their <br />school and their community. With regards to cost, the budget is for $27,000 <br />and that is just a little over 1% of Ramsey's budget, which is a good deal <br />for the money. <br /> <br />Councilmember Sorteberg inquired as to the needs of those Ramsey residents <br />utilizing Elk River Schools. <br /> <br />Mr. Hadley replied that Elk River also has a community school program and <br />those certain Ramsey residents have their choice as to which city they want <br />to participate in. <br /> <br />Sp C/S3eptember 13, 1983 <br />Page 12 of 15 <br /> <br /> <br />
