REGULAR RAMSEY TOWN BOARD MEETING
April 15, 197~

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mr. Cox at ?:30
p.m. Present were Mr. Hopperstad, Mr. Nelson, Mrs. Oliphant, Mr.
Murphy, Mr. Peterson, Clerk, Mr. Kenneth Peterson, Mrs. Schneider,
Mr. Moriarty, Mr. Muller, and Mr. Springer of the Park Board, and
Mr. Stewart and Mr. Eastman of District No. 11.

Mr. Stewart spoke about the park to be provided at the new elem-
entary school in Ramsey Township. He spoke about the maintenance
and responsibility for this park. So far this kind of a park pro-
gram has been on a hit and miss basis. On a new building it is
essential that the school and the city or Township work together.
He thinks what we should do in Ramsey is to try to develope a basic
fundamental plan for developing this park. The School Board has
some basic funds. He would like to have any reactions the Board
here might have.
It is important to use the land they do have and not go out to buy
more land. They want input from the community as to what they
want in this park. Municipal government will be the primary users-
after school and summers. When it gets beyond playground and ball
fields then it becomes the community's responsibility. They want
the group interested in acquiring equipment to come up with $1000
or 10~ of the cost, whichever is the least. Everything has to be
approved by the Board of Education and the governing body of the
community.

Question asked: What is the proposed population of this school?
Mr. Stewart answered that it would be 800 more or less. $1600
would come from the School Board and the balance would come from
the Township. They felt the cost would run between $8,000 and
$22,000. This is just a guess. The School will cut the grass
from once in two weeks to once in two months. The School District
will take care of maintenance and repair the year around. The
School District will replace worn out equipment. The School's
maintenance is minimal. It is very doubtful that the School would
do any maintenance on skating rinks. They spent $2,000 at Eisen-
hower School for equipment on the playground. Prices have gone
up and now it is $2,700 for equipment from the School District for
playgrounds at a new school.

Mr. Eastman explained the map showing the park area at the new
school. We will be needing a legal description which would be
called a "land use agreement," for the lease of park land from
the School District. Mr. Murphy offered to talk to Mr. Erling
Johnson on this matter tomorrow. No. 1 item will be levelling.
No. 2 thru 9 will be creative play area, $.2,700 for the School
District's share, and furnishing equipmen'o by the Lions Club of
Ramsey Township.

Mr. Nelson had worked out a schedule of items for playground
equipment. The Lions Club would like a placque or something of
this sort as recognition at this park. There are two plans,
