CONTINUATION OF AIRPORT ZONING HEARING FROM DEC. 3, 1973

The hearing was reopened on January 7th at 7:00 bM Mr. Murphy.
Present were Mr. Cox, Mr. Hopperstad, Mr. Pittman, Mr. Barstow,
Mr. Reimann, Mr. Springer, Mr. Ermmans, Mr. Bodle, Mr. Chapman and
Mrs. Guy.

Mr. Dick Johnson spoke explaining the airport zoning matter. He
showed a zoning map for the airport. Basically they are talking
about the height of objects that could be constructed within this
area. Thirty feet from the runway they may construct one foot in
height. At 5000 feet it goes up to 150 feet in height. In order
to go beyond these limits a variance would have to be obtained from
the local government. If the local government feels a hardship
would take place, they can grant the variance. In such case the
airport would be allowed to place a light upon the top of such a
structure at the expense of the airport. They are reducing tile
length of the runway from 2850 feet to the minimum of 2500 feet.
This will permit a ten foot structure to be built at the north
boundary of the airport. The shaded area on the map would permit
a ten foot structure but less .than 20 foot.

Mr. William S. Rosen, attorney for Mr. Menkveld, who owns land at
the north edge of the airport, was present. He said there was not
any way he could go ahead with this meeting tonight because he had
not received information he had requested in time to prepare for
this meeting. Mr. Dick Johnson said all this information and the
zoning map had been picked up by Mr. Craig, who is in the employ
of Mr. Menkveld, on the preceding Friday. Mr. Cox read alou~ to those
presen~ the letter the attorney had written Mr. Johnson and he read
Mr. Johnson's reply to each item in his letter to Mr. Rosen. Mr.
Menkveld arrived at this point and was asked whether he wanted the
meeting to go on or to be postponed on account of his attorney. He
stated it did not matter to him.

Mr. Roger Tenley has just moved in near the airport. He said he
had lived near another airport before coming here and was very dis-
enchanted with living near an airport. He was aaked why he had moved
near another airport if he felt this way about airports.

Mr. Tores objected to the airport because of noise and fear of pos-
sible accidents. There has been only one accident so far and this
was in taking off and due to carelessness, taking off into the wind.

Mr. Ted Anderson said he was confused about the airport. He was
told he was more likely to get killed in his car than by an airplane.

Someone else stated they were much more disturbed about the snowmo-
biles that were running around on his place.

Mr. Winslow Holasek asked if the zoning map had been changed. He
told the runway had been ~rtened from 2850 feet to 2500 feet.
was

Prestressed Concrete: Mr. Earl Brink, the president was here. He
said he feels more time should be given to the study of the zoning
map.
