- 2 -

Mr. Greenburg: The reason for the airport is to have it restric-
ted for small planes. It was started when they built their
dealership on Highway No. 10 in Ramsey Township. The Town Board
has had good foresight, he said, in zoning a lot of this land
industrial. We are all concerned about tax problems and commun-
ity development. In 1965 there was a renter on this farm land
which produced $~00 in taxes. Now it is producing over $20,000
in taxes. There is no profit on the airport itself but it is
good for the industrial development of surrounding land. In
studying other airports we see it is a tool to entice industry
and business to locate here. They have been dealing with a lot
of companies. Many companies do not pay any taxes in other com-
munities because these communities want them to provide employ-
ment for their citizens. If our area goes 90~ residential, we
will have a big tax problem. The airport does not want to de-
valuate anyone's property. Mr. Menkveld said they should buy
the land if they want to use it. They are asking the owner's
to give them the air rights over their land.

Answer: They said they were more than a quarter of a mile from
any residential area. They are asking a favor and there is no
doubt about it, they said. The runway ends 700 feet from Mr.
Menkveld's property.

They said the largest plane that would be using this area would
be a twin engine plane. There isn't room to have a runway going
east and west. Law says they have to clear any road by 15 feet.

Mrs. Mulcare: She said they had moved away from the Crystal
Airport and now they are going to have this airport.

Mr. Johnson said there are no helicopters based at the airport.
Only military type helicopters come in there.

Mr. Murphy stated this hearing would be continued at 7:00 p.m.
on January 7, 197S.

The hearing was recessed to b~ continued on January 7, 197~ at
7:00 p.m. It was recessed at 9:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Deputy Clerk
