ANNUAL MEETING OF RAMSEY TOWNSHIP

March 13, 1973

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 by the Town Clerk, Mr.
Peterson. He asked for nominations for a moderator for the meet-
ing. Mrs. Guelker nominated Mr. Richard Swanson. This..was seconded
by Mr. Kay Nelson. Mr. Peterson asked if there were any further
nominations. There being no more nominations Mr. Peterson asked
for a vote. Mr. Swanson was elected Chairman for the meeting by
unanimous acclaim.

The minutes of the last annual meeting were read by Mr. Peterson.
Mr. Robert Hoffman moved the minutes be accepted as read. Seconded
by Mr. Richard Barstow. Motion carried.

The Treasurer's report was read by Mrs. Jerich. Mr. Hoffman moved
this report be accepted as read. Seconded by Mr. Schake. Motion
carried.

The moderator asked if there were any more items anyone in the aud-
ience would like to place on the agenda. Hearing none he proceeded
with the item for police protection. Mr. Auspos was asked to talk
about this item in view of the fact that he is the constable. Mr.
Auspos explained the program called "Hue and Cry" and also the pro-
gram called "Operation Identification." He read some figures from
the Sheriff's office on the incidence of crime in Ramsey Township
from last October first up to the present time. Mr. Cox asked him
if he thought police protection in Ramsey Township was adequate at
the present time and he said he did not think so. Mr. Auspos thinks
we will have to contract with the Sheriff's office in order to in-
crease police coverage in our Township. He feels we are not getting
the value we should out of the amount being paid for the present pro-
tection. Mr. Cox explained that we now have almost 5,000 people out
here and that with the number of lots already accepted in plats,
when these are built on we would have another 6,000. He said the
City of Anoka has 33 people in their police protection program with
a population of 13,000. Mr. Cox said Mr. Jerich and he had gone to
Washington last week to see Mr. Blatnik about many of the problems
of the Township such as the incorporation hearing, police protection,
lack of funds for roads, etc. He said Mr. Blatnik's office would be
looking into these matters for us. He also explained to Mr. Blatnik
that Ramsey Township does not have any way of getting to a hospital,
doctor, or getting fire equipment out here if a train is sitting on
the railroad tracks and we would like an underpass, overpass or a
bridge of some kind. Both Mr. Cox and Mr. Auspos said they would
like to have input from the citicens of Ramsey about these matters.

At this point we received the results from the election held today.

Supervisor: Mr. Hopperstad 105 votes
Mr. Zirngible 22 "
Treasurer: Mr. Roger Gorham 2~ "
Mrs. Jerich 22 "

Constable Mr. Mike Auspos 125 "

(Write in)
(Write in)
