- 2 -

A.T.B.5-13-73

Some items were read from the newsletter sent out to the citizens
of Ramsey Township. Regarding the care of the roads, Ramsey Town-
ship spent $26,918.11 against that of Ham Lake Township, who has
their road work done by contract hiring, at $~8,O00 for the 1972
year. Sunfish Lake Blvd. will be taken over by the County if we
provide a 100 foot right of way.. Mr. Kay Nelson of the Park Board
spoke about the meetings they have had. He said we had about 15
acres of swamp land. He also said they had provided a skating rink
for the children on a pond leased from Mr. Titterud. Mrs. Auspos
asked if we could get better land from now on from the developers
as new plats were brought in. Mr. Jerich said the Lions Club were
selling light bulbs to make money for park equipment and that in
June they were having a carnival at the fairgrounds to raise money
for this same purpose. The County is looking for several park sites
also which would benefit us in Ramsey.

Mr. Murphy stated we had enough children here now to fill a school
and that the District is looking at sites in Ramsey Township° He
said if the District builds this school that there would be.a play-
ground there that the children could use also.

It was announced that there would be a public hearing on March 15th
at the Town Hall on possible rezoning for two grocery stores° There
will also be a hearing on March 22nd at the Town Hall at 8:00 p.m.
on the new zoning code. This is open to everyone.

A full time building inspector is needed who would also be the
zoning officer and check out requests for variances, etc. Now we
have culverts that don't drain anything and consequently we have
washouts on our roads. We may have to change the cost of the fees
to cover the cost of a full time person. Mr. Hoffman stated that
this would be the duty of the Board to set the salary, mileage, etc.
of this person.

Mr. Swanson read the proposed budget. The first item to come up
was $35,000 for the Road and Bridge Fund. Mr. Sha, our engineer,
stated that roads are increasing at a rate almost greater than the
population. He said we have had a tremendous increase in the amount
of mileage. The biggest problem is the drainage. This problem must
be taken care of now. The road equipment we have now is built only
for grading and nothing else. Mr. Cox said roads were gradually
being brought up to date. Mrs. Sather stated she was a spokesman
for the home owners on 169th Lane. She said when the County put
culverts in on the east side only of the new highway #5, they con-
tacted Mr. Moe of the Anoka County Highway Department and told him
that with this arrangement they would be flooded in the spring. He
promised he would take care of the matter. Nothing was done and
this spring one house had water surrounding it and it came into
their basement. Mr. Barstow went out there and pumped the water
out. This road was taken over by the Township on March 1971, 16~th
Lane N.W. They would like to have the engineer and the highway
department of the Township come out to look the situation over and
fix this area so they will not be flooded from now on. Contact Mrs.
Sather at 68~9 16~th Lane N.W.
