Ramsey Mayor Strommen thanked everyone for attending the joint Elk River/Ramsey Meeting. <br />Elk River Mayor John Dietz thanked the City of Ramsey for hosting this meeting and thought it <br />was a great opportunity for the two cities to get together and discuss their common interests. <br />Following introductions by all, Ramsey Mayor Strommen asked for staff to make their <br />presentations on the agenda topics. <br />3. TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION <br />3.01: General City Updates <br />Ramsey Community Development Director Gladhill presented the group with City updates for <br />Ramsey. <br />Elk River Councilmember Wagner asked if the apartments in The COR were owner occupied <br />units or rentals. <br />Ramsey Community Development Director Gladhill stated they are apartments. He noted they <br />do not have any multi -story condominiums. <br />Elk River Economic Development Director Othoudt presented the group with City updates for <br />Elk River. <br />Ramsey City Administrator Ulrich thought a mutual problem was trying to find people to take on <br />all of the projects and he wondered if there was anything El River was doing in terms of <br />workforce development. <br />Elk River Economic Development Director Othoudt stated since she started in March they have <br />been working towards a workforce development initiative and it is an issue she has discussed <br />with Ramsey Asst. City Administrator/Economic Development Manager Patrick Brama and has <br />also talked to Anoka Tech College. She thought there was an opportunity to help businesses <br />with workforce issues and an opportunity to work with other communities and find a solution. <br />Ramsey Mayor Strommen stated the City of Ramsey has been very proactive about. marketing to <br />potential new businesses and she wondered what Elk River's strategies are. <br />Elk River Economic Development Director Othoudt stated they have data center land available <br />and they market those areas specifically for data centers and they are shovel ready. The end <br />result is the developers like to see that land ready to go. She stated they have also been attending <br />some marketing data events in order to try to ramp up those marketing efforts. She stated they <br />have other specific industries they target and they do a lot of that through trade shows which all <br />play a huge role in how developers see Elk River and how business friendly they are. <br />City Council Work Session / September 14, 2015 <br />Page 2 of 9 <br />
