Ramsey Mayor Strommen indicated she would be interested in doing marketing events with Elk <br />River because she thought that at times they can be stronger together without being in direct <br />competition. She indicated she liked the idea of workforce development in the City. <br />Elk River Planning Manager Carlton updated the group on the residential market in Elk River. <br />Ramsey City Administrator Ulrich asked about the detached townhome unit market and if they <br />have sold well in Elk River. <br />Elk River Planning Manager Carlton stated detached homes have done well. He reviewed some <br />of the detached home neighborhoods in their city and what attracts people to them. <br />Elk River Economic Development Director Othoudt stated they are completing an update to their <br />housing study and when that comes back, they will really see what the demand for the housing <br />market is. He expect to see a lot more residential development happening in the next year. <br />3.02: Jarvis Construction Update <br />Elk River City Engineer Justin Femrite updated the group on the Jarvis Construction project. <br />3.03: Whistle -Free Zone Status <br />Elk River City Engineer Femrite updated the group on the whistle -free zone. <br />Ramsey Mayor Strommen asked how many of the crossings Elk River is working on for whistle - <br />free zones. <br />Elk River City Engineer Femrite stated they are working on all of the crossings in the City of Elk <br />River. <br />Elk River Mayor Dietz stated they received some money from the State to put new crossings in <br />at Main Street and Jackson Street. <br />Elk River City Engineer Femrite stated the State is committed to helping make all railroad <br />crossings safe in their city. He reviewed some of the sources they received money from for <br />crossing improvements. <br />Ramsey Councilmember Kuzma appreciated Elk River taking on Jarvis and the railroad <br />crossings. He stated Ramsey is also interested in the quiet zones and hopes to get Alpine as a <br />quiet zone soon. He indicated it took 18 months to get through the process of achieving a couple <br />of whistle free crossings in Ramsey. <br />Elk River Mayor Dietz stated they are waiting on the railroad but the City of Elk River is ready <br />to go. <br />City Council Work Session / September 14, 2015 <br />Page 3 of 9 <br />
