City Attorney Goodrich explained that as the ordinance is currently written if they were allowed <br />a 60 minute time period to leave the premise, drinks would have to be off the table by 2:00 a.m. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way noted that they could require drinks to be off the table at 1:30 a.m. and then <br />close by 2:00 a,m. <br /> <br />Councihnember Elvig inquired as to what kind of impact that would put on the Police <br />Department. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way replied that what Councilmember Elvig was proposing would not require much <br />change for the Police Department. <br /> <br />Gary Gruber, Diamonds Sports Bar, inquired as to what the current hours that liquor could be <br />served on Sundays. It was his understanding that they could begin serving liquor at 10:00 a.m. as <br />long as food is served. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich reviewed State language pertaining to Sunday serving times explaining <br />that liquor can be served from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. if food is served or 10:00 a.m. with city <br />permission. The current policy in the City would be 12:00 p.m. if food is being served. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way replied that the ordinance should be changed to allow for the 10:00 a.m. <br />serving of alcohol if food is served because that is the way most of the establishments in the City <br />currently operate. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich provided the Council with language pertaining to the information <br />regarding the 2:00 a.m. bar closing law. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired if the Council was in agreement with allowing for alcohol to be served at <br />10:00 a.m. on Sundays if food is served. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman stated that he would not be in favor of that. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec replied that is the way the City has already been operating. <br /> <br />Co uncilmember Strommen agreed with 10:00 a.m. Sunday serving time. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig agreed with 10:00 a.m. Sunday serving time. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pearson agreed with 10:00 a.m. Sunday serving time. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook stated that he thought the Sunday serving time should be 12:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way noted that the current ordinance requires that a liquor establishment must be at <br />least 1,000 feet from church, school, etc. and inquired if the Council felt that was adequate. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session/March 1, 2004 <br /> Page 3 of 12 <br /> <br /> <br />
