SPECIAL CITY OF RAMSEY COUNCIL MEETING ON AIR SHOW
April 8, 1975

The meeting was called to order at 5:25 p.m. by the Mayor, Mr.
Cox. Present were Mr. Gorham, Mr. Reimann, Mr. Mickelson and
Mrs. Oliphant. Also present were Mr. Richard Johnson, Mr. Kent
Seibert of the airport and Mr. Jerich and Mr. Kempf of the Lions
Club.

When originally contacted by the Lions Club they indicated they
were interested in working with them, that they would attempt to
assist them as best they could. There was an indication they would
prefer to handle the food. Next they turned to beer and that was
the thrust of the effort on the part of the airport. -They felt it
might work well to have a community picnic after the show with
fireworks and that the Lions Club might have a carnival there for
the children attending the show. Without the beer license, it
becomes a losing effort on the part of the airport because of the
costs of the show. It is too much of a gamble and they don't feel
it is a fair situation and that the Lions Club haS taken an unfair
stand.

With two beer licenses, liability is a problem. Who can anyone in
the crowd talk to about their problem? They would like to see the
show stay here. Lastyear there was a net of $209.82 that went to
the Rangers last year.. Last year's money went for lights at the
airport. They had tried to establish a meeting with the Lions
Club and have been unable to do so. Mr. Jerich said he would be
willing to have a meeting with the airport people. Mr. Jerich
said they would like to run a concession. The airport people can
meet with them later in the week. Mrs. Oliphant feels the Lions
Club is doing a very fine service for the community and feels the
Rangers and Lions should get together. Mr. Johnson suggested after
this everything should be in writing so there will not be any ques-
tion about anything.

Mr. Cox said last year the Lions Club did not get around to doing
anything about this in time. Mr. Cox said he thought the air show
is a terrific program. He doesn't feel our community is benefitted
a great deal by it. He suggested a 25~ additional charge to be
added to each ticket to be contributed for the parks and the police
expense for the show in Ramsey. He wants a commitment to the Coun-
cil within the next few days as to what can be worked out by the
two organizations. Mr. Johnson suggested getting a carnival,hav-
ing a family community picnic with fireworks as it is July ~th week-
end. Last year $10,000 or $11,O00 went for the Ranger~ a non-profit
organization activities and $12,000 and $7,000 were donated to other
charitable activities. It was felt that certainly the home interest
should have as much right to be considered as any other organization.
They will try to get ~ogether before next Monday night's meeting.

Mr. Cox said to keep in mind there is going to be another meet next
year. Mr. Gorham moved the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Mr.
Reimann. Motion carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.

~f~~s~ubmitted.
