Mr. Cox thanked Mr. Albert for his input. <br />was referred to the Planning & Zoning Commission. <br /> <br />This <br /> <br />Community School: Mr. Stewart: He is supervisor of the Community <br />'~chOoI Program for Dist. 11. He said no decision was made in Decem- <br />ber because it was not clear where the funding was coming from or <br />what the support was in the community. He asked Mr. Reifenberger <br />to speak first. Jan Gohman presented a petition to the Council with <br />893 names in favor of the Community School signed by adults. Mary <br />Gilman said they had gotten overwhelming response for the Community <br />School. A teenager, Barbara Lewandowski, spoke about the programs <br />in the Community School for children. Mrs. Donovan Czech spoke about <br />the programs for adults. Joan Johnson spoke about the advisory com- <br />mittee and their activities. Mr. Reifenberger said this school build- <br />ing is closed over 50% of the year. The school should be used by <br />the children and residents of the community all year round. He said <br />they need a coordinator and he said he just does not have the time <br />to coordinate such a program. He said children are constantly ask- <br />ing him about activities of a community school, so he said he was <br />voting for a community school. The community school coordinator <br />from Franklin School spoke. Mr. Stewart passed out a revision of <br />the budget. Total cost was $1~,~00 for an 11 month period. The <br />District has 10 full time community schools. They asked the Council <br />to fund $3,300 from June 16th thru the first week of August and he <br />was asking for fundin$ at this time, for the rest of the year from <br />August 1st on. The school mows the lawn and repairs the school equip- <br />ment. The Legislature gives $5,000 a year toward community schools. <br />This bill ends next year. The School Board was allowed to levy <br />$85,000 for expansion of the community school. Mr. A1 Eempf said <br />the Lions Club would install the playground equipment they had pur- <br />chased at a cost of about $9,000, as soon as the weather permits. <br />Mr. Gotham asked if the ball fields and playgrounds would he ready <br />in time for s~mer school. Mr. Cox asked what size ball fields <br />they were planning. Mr. Kempf said one regulation size ball field. <br />It could be divided up ~nto 3 or ~ smaller ones. Mr. Cox said Mr. <br />Kempf should try to get as much donated help as possible to get <br />these ball fields ready. Mr. Stewart thinks R~msey would qualify <br />for $3,000 from the School Board on the first of July. Mrs. Oli- <br />phant spoke about her ideas on community school. Motion: Mrs. Oli- <br />phant moved due to the central location in the community and the <br />energy shortage, that the Ramsey City Council appropriate funds for <br />adopting a summer program for $3,300 and also for funding a full <br />time community school beginning August 1st at $10,53~. Motion died <br />for lack of a second. <br /> <br />Mr. Cox asked Mr. Steffens about the amount budgeted for a community <br />school. Mr. Steffens replied $10,O00 and $3,300 other anticipated <br />income. He also discussed the cash flow problems. He said net bud- <br />get for 1975 for community school was $10,000. Mr. Cox spoke about <br />the duty of the five person Council isto represent all the people <br />in the community. <br /> <br />Mrs. Oliphant restated her motion with the hope, she said, that"'her <br />fellow Councilmen would be responsive to the residents of the com- <br /> <br /> <br />
