l) Consider Ending Probationary Period for Building Official <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed explained that Michael Kaehler was hired as the Building <br />Official November 10, 2003. Mr. Kaehler has successfully completed the required six-month <br />probationary period and his supervisor, the Community Development Director, recommends that <br />Mr. Kaehler be retained as the regular, full-time Building Official. The motion by the Persom~el <br />Committee was to recommend that the City Council adopt a resolution ending the probationary <br />period for Mick Kaehler and grant him status as the full-time, regular Building Official. <br /> <br />2) Consider Authorization to Hire a Public Works Maintenance Worker <br /> <br />t-luman Resources Manager Reed explained case number two should be disregarded as Mr. Moen <br />has informed staff he will be unable to accept the position. This can be replaced with the <br />additional case to consider the authorization to hire a Public Works Maintenance Worker, which <br />will leave one remaining Public Works position open. <br /> <br />t-fuman Resources Manager Reed explained in February 2004 the Public Works Maintenance <br />position was advertised. Approximately 90 applications were received and a total of fourteen <br />caudidates were interviewed. Based on the inte~wiew panel's review, staff is recommending that <br />Michael Berge be hired for the Public Works Maintenance Worker position at a starting wage of <br />$16.03/hr, plus benefits. Mr. Berge's appointment is contingent upon successful completion of <br />criminal background and reference checks and passing a pre-employment physical and drug <br />screen. With Council approval, Mr. Berge's start date will be on or near June 1, 2004. The <br />motion of the Personnel Committee was to recommend Michael Berge for the position of full- <br />time Public Works Maintenance Worker at a starting wage of $16.03/hr, plus benefits contingent <br />upon successful completion of a criminal background and reference checks, a pre-employment <br />physical and a drug screen. <br /> <br />Motion by Councihnember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to ratify the <br />recommendation of the Personnel Committee for Case 1, to adopt Resolution #04-05-111 ending <br />the probationary period for Mick Kaehler and granting him status as the full-time, regular <br />Building Official, and for Case 2, to adopt Resolution #04-05-112 authorizing the hire of <br />Michael Berge for the position of full-time Public Works Maintenance Worker at a starting wage <br />of $16.03/bt/ plus benefits contingent upon successful completion of criminal background and <br />refcrence checks, a pre-employment physical, and a drug screen. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Cook, Pearson, Elvig, Kurak, <br />Strommcn, and Zimmerman.
