Dennis Donovan reported on the Park & Recreation Commission meeting and on <br />citizen's requests that have oome before the Commission. <br /> <br />1. A security light for a skating pond at Flintwood Hills Addition <br /> which the P & R Commission is in favor of. <br /> <br />2. A light for Peltzer Park for skating on Peltzer pond. <br /> <br />(Supt. Mevissen to review this request. It was noted that ice <br /> on these ponds is impossible to maintain and that the City is not <br /> cleaning the area on ponds for skating. The concern is that they <br /> may not be used if they become rough from snow and rain~. <br /> <br />3. Forest Hideaway asked that Mr. Mevissen grade off an area that <br /> the residents could flood and maintain themselves as a skating rink. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec noted that the City has been bombarded with requests for skating <br />ice, hockey rinks, etc. <br /> <br />Councilman Reimann noted that it is not the right time to level the ground <br />to prepare it for a skating rink, this is something that could be planned <br />for next winter. <br /> <br />Dennis Donovan pointed out that the P & R Department has a t~emendous <br />budget problem and they are getting a lot of legitimate requests. <br /> <br />LETTERS & COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />Pictures of Senator Boschwitz and Durenberger and Governor Quie were <br />received by the Council. These pictures will be framed and hung in the <br />Council Chambers. <br /> <br />ATTORNEY GOODRICH~S REPORT <br /> <br />Attorney Goodrich reported on the condemnation proceedings of Brown and <br />Makowsky in conjunction with the Variolite Project. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Reimann and seconded by Councilman Cox to pay the Brown <br />condemnation in the amount of $2873.12. <br /> <br />Voting yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmen Coxf Mickelson~ Reimann and Sorteberg. <br />Voting no: None. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Cox and seconded by Mickelson to pay the Makowsky condemnation <br />in the amount of $5540.75. <br /> <br />Voting yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmen Cox, Mickelson, Reimann and Sorteberg. <br />Voting no: None. Motion carried. <br /> <br />STAFF REPORTS <br />Mayor Gamec reported on a meeting with the owners of the property around Lake Itasca, <br />General Mills. They are going to hold onto the land and will not give it away. <br />It will probably be used to locate a research center for General Mills when sewer <br />is available. <br />Councilman Cox reported on a meeting with Congressman Oberstar and the possibility <br />of getting funding to extend the sewer to that area. <br /> <br /> Regular Meeting <br />Council/January 8, 1980/Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
