17) Women's Jaycees Request for the Use Lower Portion of City Hall <br /> <br />Councilman Reimann inquired if it wouldn't be better and easier for the Women's <br />Jaycees to use the Fire Barn. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Cox and seconded by Councilman Mickelson to ~llow the Women's <br />Jaycees to use the Fire Barn for their garage sale on June 7, 1980 from 8:30 a.m. <br />to 3:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting yes-Mayor Gamec, Councilmen Sorteberg, Reimann, <br />Mickelson and Cox. Voting no-None. <br /> <br />18) Bloom Condemnation <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich said the. Blooms would settle for $7500 and they have there- <br />fore come down $1000 in their demands~ It was the general consensus of the <br />Council to stick with the previous motion, which was to offer $2800. <br /> <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL INPUT <br /> <br />In regards to the EDA grant for the City Hall and Fire Station and the $8,683 <br />the EDA wants refunded to them, City Administrator Schnelle said the auditors <br />did research work on this and they found out the work was done prior to January <br />14th. <br /> <br />Councilman Reimann said he thought the city should pay the $8,683 and stay with <br />EDA's good graces. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Cox and seconded by Councilman Reimann to approve payment <br />of $8,683 refund to E.D.A. after the second half taxes are paid for this year. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting yes-Mayor Gamec, Councilmen Sorteberg, Reimann, Mickelson <br />and Cox. Voting no-None. <br /> <br />Councilman Cox noted the City Council recognizes and appreciates the fact that <br />there is now an optional fee system for the Minnesota Daily at the University <br />of Minnesota. <br /> <br />Councilman Sorteberg said in regards to the purchase of land adjacent to City <br />Hall, he checked and found out the owner is Mr. Steven Marks who lives in <br />California. He said the land is for sale at a price, but he didn't know the <br />price. He said the owner bought the property three years ago for investment <br />purposes. The question is, "What is it worth?" The assessed valuation is <br />$42,000. Councilman Sorteberg suggested the city make an offer. <br /> <br />Discussion followed regarding purchase of the land. <br /> <br />Councilman Reimann suggested adding on behind City Hall. <br /> <br />Councilman Cox said regarding the correspondence received from the Navy that <br />it appears the recruiters can't even go out and talk at the schools any more. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said the Council should all review this matter, but he felt <br />he didn't know enough about it to be able to pass judgment. <br /> <br />Special Council <br /> May 19, ].980 <br /> Page 8 <br /> <br /> <br />
