City Administrator Schnelle said Alpaca Estates developers have spent numerous <br />hours down at the Metro Council. <br /> <br />Councilman Cox said with the limited resources the city has, it doesn't have <br />and cannot get the people or time to get to all the meetings needed, or <br />to review all the necessary paperwork to put these things into effect. <br /> <br />Metro Council Chairman Weaver said they are willing to do whatever the city <br />asks to try to get what the city wants to happen. The Metro Council is <br />trying to get relatively continuous growth, but they don't want Orrin <br />Thompson building homes in Northern Anoka County with bad septic tanks and <br />then there will have to be sewer lines put in in open-spaced areas which the <br />residents will have to pay for. Ramsey will never be asked to run sewer <br />lines up to Wright County or Isanti County. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said if septic tanks are working properly, they will last <br />forever. He said he personally would rather have a septic tank than a sewer <br />assessment and the city doesn't want sewer in the city's residential areas. <br /> <br />Metro Council Chairman Weaver said the Dunham Oaks was turned down because <br />of the funding questions and alternatives that seem to be arising. He <br />recommended Ramsey go on its own and not tie to Dunham Oaks. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said the city wants the second sanitary sewer interceptor connection <br />as soon as it can get it. <br /> <br />Metro Council Chairman Weaver said he thought the first thing to do is to <br />meet with the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission and a Ramsey representative <br />on this issue. <br /> <br />City Administrator Schnelle said the things that concerns him most is the <br />2½ acre lot size requirement. He felt Ramsey ordinances address the density <br />problem better than the Metro Council guidelines and it is hard for the <br />citizens to aee an appointed body tell an elected body what to do. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said currently, the heat is not off in regards to landfills. <br />City officials have asked for tests and have tried to get answers from <br />many agencies and they can't get the answers they are looking for. They <br />are finding and many citizens are finding violations at the city's landfill <br />where there is a methane problem and a water pollution problem. This is <br />a major concern of the many residents on the west side of the landfill who are <br />being affected by it. <br /> <br />Metro Council Chairman Weaver said the Metro Council will not own the landfills, <br />but may designate sites. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said there has to be tight regulations on the landfill sites. <br /> <br />Metro Council Chairman Weaver said in regards to hazardous waste, each county <br />must come up with possible sites by 1982 and then a selection will be made. <br />The Waste Management Board will be handling this. He said he would call <br />the city tomorrow on the second sanitary sewer interceptor connection. <br /> <br />Roger Scherer said the city could go through him instead of the Chairman's office. <br /> <br /> C/August 26, 1980 Page 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
