Citizen ~nput Continued: <br /> <br />Councilman Cox stated he would like to make the.following statement as a citizen <br />of the City of Ramsey: ~ . ,~,~ ~x.~ <br /> <br />In regard to the Anoka area hockey association meeting, Mayor Gamec in his <br />opinion was extremely dishonest, did not present all the facts, supported <br />ice users spending money for facility that they shouldn't have to, the action <br />taken by the Mayor would be considered by other government bodies to be guilty <br />of treason to taxpayers and citizens of Ramsey, did not indicate tax dollars spent <br />to this point for project in Ramsey, stated he represented Ramsey City Council in <br />his statements that were untrue, made statements contrary to E.D.C. position, <br />made statements regardless of the committment to developers that donated land <br />for Highway 47, bridge crossing and recreational facility, did not mention <br />57.5 million in added tax base potential in cor~nection with the school district, <br />and the potential countless uses of the river, energy conservation by Ramsey ~..~ ..... ..,,. <br />citizens and 1050 estimated full time jobs were not mentioned. Councilman <br />Cox further stated the Ramsey area residents are treated like second class <br />citizens. They are being taxed out of business, don't get the fair share of <br />local aid, however they receive a new cotmty jail, a parking lot, the <br />state hospital, landfills and metro and state mandates to waste Ramsey monies. <br />Comncilman Cox stated "Let's get the horse before the cart...obtain local aids <br />first...want champagne parks on a beer income. Councilman Cox suggested sending a <br />position letter to the hockey association indicating what this will do for <br />Ramsey area, the county and school system, indicating our position %o proceed <br />with the arena and urging county support of the project. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated at the meeting he stated Ramsey's position on the proposed <br />arena project. He stated Ramsey would be going ahead with their proposed <br />project regardless of what the Anoka Hockey Association did. The association <br />wanted to know if Ramsey was going ahead with the project and what type of <br />funding or grants were available. He further stated all Ramsey can do is give <br />its input. Ramsey's goal and set up are different, the association wants low <br />cost ice time, we are looking for a full facility. <br /> <br />Councilman Cox again stated his dissatisfaction and had no further input. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Reimann and seconded by Councilwoman Van Wagner to approve <br />the agenda with addendum and addition of no~nber 9 under new business. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilman Sorteberg, Councilman Reimann, <br />Councilman Cox, Councilwoman Van Wagner. Voting no: None. <br /> <br />A. MINUTES FOR APPROVAL <br /> <br />1. Regular Council meeting of February 24, 1981. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilwoman Van Wagner and seconded by Councilman Reimann to approve <br />the regular council meeting minutes of February 24, 1981. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
