Bruce Westby
November 17, 2015
Page 2
2. Parking Lane. We disagree that a parking lane is necessary and do not want the
new road to include a parking lane.
3. Road Width. We understand that the bike lane may make the new road slightly
wider than the existing road and want the City to make every effort to make the
road width as close to the existing road width as possible. Therefore, please note
that we disagree with proposals calling for a 36 - 38 foot road. We feel that a
30 foot road is both appropriate for the existing look -and -feel of the neighborhood
and the least disruptive to existing landscaping and neighborhood aesthetics.
4. Lane Marking. We understand that the bike lane will require lane identification,
such as a white line, .and we agree with that form of identification. However, we
do not wish any additional road markings to identify center line or right lane
marker on the road side opposite the bike lane.
5. Sidewalks. The topic of sidewalks was brought up in the meeting. We understand
that sidewalks were not part of the City's proposal. We feel that sidewalks need
not be considered in this road reconstruction project and want it to be known that
we do not want to see sidewalks added to the Northfork development.
6. Safety. One additional topic of discussion in the meeting was public safety and
how a wider road may improve safety. We fail to see the connection between road
width and public safety and feel that a wider road may contribute to more safety
issues, as individuals may drive faster on a wider road than on a narrower road.
PROPERTY CONSIDERATIONS
The property at address 16081 Andrie Street has the following items that the city should
be aware of.
1. Lawn Irrigation. The property has eight sprinkler heads that run adjacent to the
existing road curb. We understand that it is likely that the construction project will
require relocation of the sprinkler heads. I want to make sure that the city repairs
the irrigation system at no additional cost to us.
2. Mailbox and Post. The mailbox, post, and in -ground bracket will likely need to
be removed prior to the constriction project and reinstalled one the project is
complete. Please note, that the in -ground bracket is set in the ground using
concrete and is a unique design for the existing post. If the in -ground bracket is
discarded, then it is likely that the post will no longer be useful. Therefore, I urge
the City to remove the mounting bracket prior to the start of the reconstruction
project and provide it to me for safe -keeping until the mailbox is reinstalled at the
completion of the road project.
