PAGE 3 <br /> PUBLIC HEARING <br /> MAY 29, 1979 <br /> STREET IMPROVEMENT <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated no, that the people would have to pay the cost themselves. <br />The City designates streets in the City as major thoroughfares that receive the <br />State aid and these streets would not qualify as such. <br /> <br />Mr. McCarty asked who determines Whether he needs a culvert, how much do they cost, <br />and what is the cost of maintenance of the street after it is improved.? <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec responded that the cost of maintaining blacktop is generally less than <br />dirt or gravel and culverts are put in only when needed and at the property owners <br />expense. <br /> <br />A resident at 16260 Jaspar, said he blacktopped his driveway to the street and has <br />a culvert and is wondering if they will dig it up and clean it or what? <br /> <br />Engineer Raatikka said it would probably be left the way it is. <br /> <br />Mr. Scannel said he has two culverts, one in the street and one in his driveway <br />and they are both underground, he added that'they should be cleaned out. <br /> <br />Engineer [~aatikka replied this is something they are taking a look at. <br /> <br />Mr. Broderick said he is directly across from Mr. Jackson~nd asked where <br />163rd is going to stop being paved. <br /> <br />Engineer Raatlkka replied, right past the intersection. <br /> <br />Les Martens, 161st Lane asked about the quality of the job, does this go to <br />the lowest bidder and is there any guarantee. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec explained that it does go to the lowest bidder but it has to be done <br />to City standards and a performance bond guaranteeing the qualityof the road for a <br />one-year period is provided to the City. <br /> <br />Mr. Martens asked about completion time. <br /> <br />Engineer Raatikka said it would be completed sometime this Fall. <br /> <br />A man in the audience asked about posting of signs to keep speeding down. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said what the City is doing is telling people to police their own <br />area and take names down and the City will send out letters informing violators <br />of the complaint without involving the complainant. <br /> <br />Mr. Gordon Lovmick aske~, if they ever get the park on 161st and Jaspar would <br />there be a stop sign there? <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that the City is making a study on where signs are needed. <br /> <br />Victor MeClaron asked rather than stop signs could they have dips in the road. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec said they are a maintenance problem. <br /> <br /> <br />
