looking into a joint effort with the citieg of Anoka and Andover of putting together information <br />on cable TV to promote this and additional things that will be happening. A representative of <br />Anoka County Community Health Department stated that if Ramsey adopts this policy it will be <br />the 48th city in the state of Minnesota to do so. This relates to role modeling for youth, less litter, <br />and second hand smoke exposure. Mayor Gamec requested the Health Department to supply <br />staff with any available information for the City newsletter. Councilmember Elvig commented <br />there was a fair amount of conversation from the RYAA group in favor of bringing this forward. <br />Mayor Gamcc asked if there have been any further comments from Anoka or Andover regarding <br />this. The representative of Anoka County Community Health Department replied they are both <br />in the process of passing this. There is a coalition of community members forming in the City of <br />Andover and overwhehning support from athletic groups. Anoka is in the middle of the process <br />with the Park Commission and City Council. Councilmember Zimmerman inquired about <br />fimding for the signs from the tobacco settlement. The representative of Anoka County <br />Connnunity Health Department replied the funding is received from the Minnesota Department <br />of Health. The endowment established in 1998 was put into the general fund to balance the <br />budget. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Cook, Strommen, Elvig, Kurak, <br />Pearson, and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #15: <br /> <br />Introduction of Ordinance (Special Fire Protection Systems) to Include <br />Chapter 1306 to the Minnesota Building Code <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler reviewed that this ordinance would amend the building code to <br />require special fire suppression systems in new buildings. The threshold for commercial <br />structures wonld be lowered in many cases to 2,000 square feet. All assembly occupancies <br />would be required to be sprinkled. Sprinklers would be required in all residential occupancies <br />that are greater than 8,500 square feet. The 8,500 square feet is the gross area of the residence <br />including all floors, basements, and garages. It would not affect unattached one and two family <br />homes unless they are over 8,500 square feet. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated it should be clear that most homes in the City would not require the <br />sprinkling system. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman, to introduce an <br />ordinance to adopt chapter 1306, subpart 3, New Buildings with item E, option 1 in the <br />Minnesota Building Code. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Cook, Zimmerman, Elvig, Kurak, <br />Pearson, and Strommen.
