Meresop <br />Attorney Goodrich <br /> <br />I.~ayor Cox called the Public }~earing to order at 7:37 P..~4. <br />l~ayor Cox led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />Administrative Assistant }.!ereson presented and discussed the proposed 1978 <br />budget to the Council. <br /> <br />hr. Mereson explained that the increased revenue is a result of the increased <br />local government aid based on the population increase, the Federal Revenue <br />Sharing increase, the increase in licenses and permit fees to be collected, <br />the park revenues and the I~TSA maintenance income. <br /> <br />}~'iayor Co× asked if this increase of nearly one hundred thousand dollars seemed <br />to be an awful lot. Councilman Gamee, who worked on a sub-committee with F~r. <br />l~ereson, said he did quite a bit of figuging about it and he felt that the <br />amount was not too out of ]_ine. <br /> <br />Regardin,~ the Street Oepartment, Mr. }~ereson was directed to take care of selling <br />the .1942 Street Department truck by sealed bid.. <br /> <br />Regarding the Police Department, Councilman Gamec raised the point that, to <br />reflect a truer picture of the budget, if one fulltime patrol officer is <br />dropped, it will also drop the uniform and fringe benefit amounts. <br /> <br />~Zayor Cox indicated that he would like to see the shade tree program aimed <br />toward reforestation, ~r. Mereson suggested that this program could do two <br />things: 1. help people to get trees, and 2. establish and maintain a service <br />by which people who have diseased trees to be cut or hauled can contact people <br />who want woo~ for burning and would cut them down or haul them away. <br /> <br />Discussion was held on the parttime position in the'Building and. Assessing <br />Department and it was generally felt that a parttime position would not be <br />needed. F'r. ~ereson said that in the future he woald like to see the City <br />use a calendar process that would run from July to July, particularly on <br />salaries for employees. <br /> <br />The Park Department had considered hiring a consultant to help plan the property, <br />but the subcommittee said they would like to see the Park Department do this. <br /> <br /> <br />
