there would be additional land use applications for this meeting, however some of the projects
have been withdrawn, which is why there weren't more for review this evening.
Board Member Hiatt asked if there was an update on the rain barrels.
City Planner Anderson said he got confirmation from the Recycling Association of Minnesota
(RAM) that Ramsey would be one of the locations for a distribution event. Information will be in
the March/April newsletter. The distribution date for Ramsey will be May 20. He noted Anoka
County is looking into the possibility of bringing down the cost of compost bins to those that are
a resident of the County.
Board Member Bentz noted there have been two events over the past two weeks that may have
shaken the public's confidence in municipalities. The lead found in the municipal water in Flint,
Michigan has garnered distrust with municipalities. The sudden increased cost of solar power in
Nevada, and the PUC's approval of the price hike adds to the negative perception of municipalities.
He suggested the City contact Connexus Energy and try to get a statement from Connexus on the
status of their solar program. It is similar to the program in Nevada, and those taking advantage
of the program may be worried about potential price hikes similar to what happened in Nevada.
Councilmember LeTourneau suggested it may be valuable to add this item to an agenda for the
Board to review and discuss.
Community Development Director Gladhill suggested it may be good to contact the new CEO of
Connexus to learn from him how they are owned and regulated, and ask him to clarify this program
for the public. He said he will look into setting up this discussion, which could include their
commitment to the program going forward.
7.
