'1 I I I I I I i RESOLUTION #83- RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE LOCATION OF A RACING ? FACILITY WITHIN ANOKA COUNTY WHEREAS, a State constitutional amendment allowing pari-mutual betting was approved by Minnesota voters on November 2, 1982; and WHEREAS, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution #83-5 which has initiated the following relating to the location of a racing facility within Anoka County: a) ~he Anoka County Board of Commissioners strongly supports locating a racing facility within Anoka County. b) The Anoka County Board of Commissioners are urging the Anoka County Legislative Delegation to take all necessary steps to secure a racing facility within Anoka County. c) - The Anoka County Board of Commissioners are. urging the Chambers of Commerce and City and Township Governments to adopt similar resolutions and to actively pursue the acquisition of a racing facility in the County. d) The Anoka County Board of Commissioners are to appoint a "Blue Ribbon Racing Advisory Committee", consisting of repre- sentatives of governmental, business and other interested groups, to coordinate County efforts to obtain the racing facility. e) The Anoka County Board of Commissioners has authorized planning funds to provide assistance in the pursuit and develop- ment of a racing facility and encourage financial support from other agencies for this effort.' WHEREAS, the City Council, City of Ramsey, recognizes there would significant economic benefits to counties in which racing facilities are located and that locating a major Statewide recreational facility in the northern portion of the Twin Cities area would provide balance to the metropolitan community and fairness to the region. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, ~s follows: 1) The City Council of Ramsey supports the Anoka County Board in establishing a racing facility in Anoka County as it will create a significant economic benefit to the County. 2) Th~ City Council of Ramsey further requests that at least one member of the County's Blue Ribbon Racing Advisory Committee be selected from the Ramsey City Council. 3) It is directed that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Anoka County Board of Commissioners and the County Administrator.
