I <br />I <br />! <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Counc~lmember Sorteberg introduced the following resolution and moved for <br /> adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #83-8 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE LOCATION OF A RACING FACILITY WITHIN ANO¥~ COUNTY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a State constitutional amendment allowing pari-mutual <br />betting was approved by Minnesota voters on November 27 1982~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners adopted Reso- <br />lution #83-5 which has initiated the following relating to the location of a <br />racing facility within Anoka County: <br /> <br />a) The Anoka County Board of Commissioners strongly supports <br />locating a facing facility within Anoka County, <br /> <br />b) The Anoka County Board of Commissioners are urging the <br />Anoka County Legislative.Delegation~to take all necessary <br />steps to secure a racing facility within Anoka County. <br /> <br />c) The Anoka County Board of'Commissioners are urging the <br />Chambers of Commerce and City and Township Governments to' <br />adopt similar resolutions and to actively pursue the acqui- <br />sition of a racing facility in the County. <br /> <br /> d) The Anoka County Board of Commissioners are to appoint <br /> a ;'Blue Ribbon Racing Advisory Committee:~, consisting of <br /> representatives of governmental~ business and other in- <br /> terested groups, to coordinate County efforts to obtain the <br /> racing facility. <br /> <br /> e) The Anoka County Board of Commissioners has authorized <br /> planning funds to provide assistance in the pursuit and <br /> development of a racing facilitY and encourage financial <br /> support from other agencies for this effort. <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, the City Council, City of Ramsey, recognizes there <br />would be significant economic benefits to counties in which racing facilities <br />are located and that locating a major Statewide recreational facility in the <br />northern portion of the Twin Cities area would provide balance to the metro- <br />politan community and fairness to the region. <br /> <br />lqOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF RAMSEY~ ANOKA <br />COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />I <br />! <br />I <br />I <br /> <br /> l) The City Council of Ramsey supports the Anoka County Board <br />in establishing a racing facility in Anoka County as it will create a signifi- <br />cant economic benefit to the County. <br /> <br /> 2) The City Council of Ramsgy further requests that at least o~ <br />member of the County's Blue Ribbon Racing Advisory Committee be selected from <br />the Ramsey City Council. <br /> <br /> <br />
