Lefebvre, Anoka County Auditor~.~

February 9, 1983

Enclosed please find the "Summary of City' Election Officials
Concerns on Election Night Procedures' at the Anoka County Courthouse"
and the "Response prepared by-Elaine Voss, Elections Supervisor".

The City Election Officials comments were brought to my attention
by a County Commissioner and no one has directly addressed the
comments to me or any of my elections staff. I asked the Elections
Supervisor to respond to the comments.

It is important to note that in Chapters 200 - 210A of Minnesota
Statutes that the office of County Auditor is designated as the
Chief Election Official for the County. The statute mandates the
responsibility relating to each and every aspect of the election
to the County Auditor. I take that mandate very seriously. I see
the cooperative efforts to work together with municipalities to be
key in our joint success. When a petition from the City Clerks
requesting that Gordon Harvey be appointed to work with data
processing for the 1982 election was presented to me, I immediately
presented that request to administration. The request was granted
and Mr. Harvey was in the computer room both for the primary and
general elections. My cooperative efforts extend to the offering
to do mask punching, crimping of ballot pages and the assembling
of votomatic frames. My office will continue to offer these services
to the municipalities.

I would be happy to respond to or meet with any of the interested
parties.

Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
