I
I
I
I
I
!
I

I
I

Councilman Sorteberg stated that he's afraid that the money that would be
spent on this person's salary would probably be spent in another manner anyway
if the money stays the~e.~ It's happened before. We have to go by the City
Administrator's recommendations. The Councilmembers aren't up here all day
to see what type of workload they have and their output. It will take a few
months anyway by the time the person'is hired and then a six month probation
period. Maybe we should take it to the full Council so they can get familiar
with the issue. It hasn't been discussed at a meeting yet. Then we can see
how everyone feels. Even if we don't have a definite recommendation, it should
be discussed.

Councilman Reimann stated that we should hold off until the summer and see
what building brings and bring it up again at that time.

City Administrator Schnelle stated that building would have little if any
bearing on this position. He said that all he can do is present his recom-
mendations to the Personnel Committee and they make the decision. However,
it should be on the Council agenda for their consideration.

Discussion followed regarding the utility ordinance that is going before
Council for adoption at the next regular meeting as it related to assessing
MSA streets.

The meeting adjourned at 8:20 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Penny Curtis
Secretary

Personnel Committee/March 8, 1983
