The increase is necessary to reflect a change in the wholesale cost of gas which we have received from Northern Natu. ral Gas Company, our supplier to your service area. Northern's rate change reflects a reduction in the demand com- ponent of its rates due to reduced costs of transporting gas · through the Alaska Natural Gas Transmission System. However, due to the increased levels of conservation which North Central has experienced by its residential and commercial heating customers, the annual demand sales volume has decreased since North Central's last filing with the Minnesota Public Utilities' Commission (Docket No. G-010/MR-83-164). As a result of this decrease in the annual demand sales volume and Northern's rate change, North Central will be increasing all Firm rates for natural gas by $.00106 per hundred cubic feet (Hcf). This represents an approximate increase of $1.26 annually to the average residential spaceheating customer, or expressed as a percentage of inc,-ease about .4%.
