If your §overnment faces any of these obstacles to publishing revenue sharing notices in a newspaper, the Chief Executive Officer may request a waiver of the newspaper publication requirement. If a waiver is .qranted by the Office of Revenue Sharing, an approved alternative publication method must be used b~ your §overnment to contact its citizens. A government news- letter or posting are two examples of approved alternative publication methods. In addition, Notification of the News Media and Community-based Organizations Whenever any public notice is required to be published in a newspaper, your government must advise the news media, including minoriB;, bilingual, and foreign language news media, that this information is available to them. States and metropolitan govern- ments may fulfill this requiremeni by contacting the major news services located within their jurisdiction. In addition to notifying the news media (which might include such services as the press, TV and radio stations), your government should make reasonable efforts to inform civic organizations, federations, and other com- munity-based organizations of the availabil- ity of this information. III. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Senior Citizen Participation State 'and local recipient governments are required to make special efforts to provide senior citizens and their organizations with an opportunit~ to participate in revenue sharing public hearings. It is expected that your §overnment will: · Identify the senior citizens organiza- tions located in its area
