That decision, by the
way, is made by a site selection authority which is the county board plus a
locally selected representative from each city or town with a potential site.

I
I
I
I
I
I

Before closing I would like to note an apparent error in Resolution 82-108,
which contains several references to a 400-acre site. Our information shows
that a 119-acre site has been identified for county acquisition (of which 95
acres are proposed as actual fill area) and a buffer zone of 129 acres has been
delineated. For the site itself, Ramsey's comprehensive plan shows the north-
ern half as planned for parkland. In essence, the city's questions regarding
the economic impacts of the site apply primarily to its southern half only.
For the buffer zone, there is no outright prohibition of development, although
a temporary moratorium is now in effect. However, there would be restrictions
on the type or placement of development in order to minimize conflict with an
adjacent landfill.

ThaDk you ,9~ for your .correspondence, Bams~y'~ thoughtful approach to this
~6~y' difficult issue is commendable. We encourage you ~o participate in the
s~Ssequent stages of our review pf6cess.- The site will be discussed by the
Metropolitan Waste Management Advisory Committee at 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 14,
1982. Their recommendation will be presented to the Council's Physical Devel-
opment Committee on Sept. 16, 1982, and action by the Metropolitan Council is
tentatively scheduled for Sept. 23, 1982.

Sincerely,

weaver
Ch airman

CRW:sa

cc: Ed Fields, Anoka County Commissioner Jay McLinden, Anoka County Commissioner
Robert Hutchinson, Director, Anoka County Environmental Services
Robert Johnson, Anoka County Attorney
Lynne Takemoto, Metropolitan Council Staff

An Agency Created to Coordinate the Planning and Development of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area Comprising:
I Anoka County O Carver County O Dakota County O I4ennepin County 0 Ramsey County O Scott County 0 Washington County
An Equal Opportunity Employer
