I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Ramsey
Page 2

is 60 to 150 feet deep in the area and it supplies groundwater to wells as does the
underlying Franconia Formation. The glacial maferial overlying the bedrock is charac-
terized by an upper layer of sand or gravel 30 to 80 feet thick. Below this coarse
material there is a layer of c]ay or clay/sand/§ravel mixture. The lower portion
of the g. lacial material may contain a single clayey unit, or multiple clayey units
separated by sand or gravel. Overall, the aquifers are separated from the surface
by one or more clayey units. Therefore although soil conditions are sandy, subsur-
face conditions would provide some natural safety over that designed into a facility.

Proximity to natural areas, parks, historic sites:

The Minnesota Historical Society notes.that there are no sites in the area that are
on the National Register but that a site which may be eligible for inclusion on the
National Register has been inventoried in city or county surveys. Ramsey has de-
veloped a Mississippi River Critical Area Plan for developments along the River.
