I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br />I <br /> I <br />I <br /> I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />was with the fact that there is so much apprehension when adjustments are necessary <br />to maintain the integrity of the City's pay plan, we feel it is imperative that <br />the 5% recommended versus the 7% requested be negotiated to a figure that will not <br />necessitate appreciable adjustments in 1984. <br /> <br />Councilman Sorteberg stated that his eyes were opened in a meeting he attended <br />with State legislators. We're worse off than we thought we were. He stated that <br />he doesn't plan on changing the figure of 5% that he gave at the last meeting. <br /> <br />Councilman Reimann stated that we may need to cut our budget even further. Every~ . ~ . <br />one may have to pull in their belt and accept the way the economy is going. <br /> <br />Building Official Berg stated that he could accept the 5% cost of living figure <br />if the top five Staff positions would get the money they should have had ail along. <br />He further stated that for the next year Staff was going to have to subsidize the <br />State and they shouldn't be expected to continue .to subsidize the City as well. <br /> <br />City Administrator Schnelle stated that he feels that the employees should not be <br />penalized twice which is now going to happen with the two percent loss in pay <br />created by the State legislature. <br /> <br />Councilman Sorteberg stated that the two percent cut is supposed to last only Six <br />months. <br /> <br />Councilman Reimann stated that it's really not fair that the people in Ramsey should <br />suffer because they've been running a tight ship. <br /> <br />Public Worksman Daryl Saathoff said that the City has good employees and a good <br />working team and they should be paid an equitable wage. <br /> <br />City Administrator Schnelle stated that we're 16 people and we're stretching it to <br />the end, <br /> <br />Pub. tic Works Superintendent Mevissen stated that other Cities our size would have six <br />to ~elveemployees on their street depart~e'nt and we'~re doing it with three, He <br />said that he's had a man in the budget for the last five years but you say we can't <br />afford it, so we're doing the best with what we've got and trying to handle the load. <br /> <br />Health insurance was briefly discussed. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Sorteberg and seconded by Councilman Reimann to recommend to <br />the City Council that unused insurance premiums for employees having single coverage <br />will be reimbursed to those individuals as salary. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A discussion followed regarding mileage payment. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilman Reimann and seconded by Councilman Sorteberg to recommend an <br />increase in mileage payment to $.25 per mile.
