City of Ramsey

December 9, 1982

Mr. D. W. Scott
S~erintendent
Burlington Northern Railroad
80 - Forty-Fourth Avenue NE
Minneapolis, MN 55421

RE: Your Letter Dated December 7, 1982 in Reference to Property Taxes
Covering Fire Calls

I
I
I
I

I
I

Dear Mr. Scott

We agree with you and assure you that you are receiving the same services
as any other property owner in our community in that the City of Ramsey
bills out all fire calls to the property owner where the fire occurs.

Consequently, the statement we sent you ~s a proper statement and as stated
above, any citizen who has a fire at his residence is billed the cost of
the fire call. If we did not use this method of billing out fire calls
and instead included it in the City budget to have it covered through prop-
erty taxes, this would increase yours and other commercial property taxes
considerably. I am sure you are aware the property %axing structure is
not too favorable to business.

Consequently, under this method those who use this service pay for the ·
service which is the more' equitable way, I think you would agree. However,
I am enclosing several charts for your information on the property tax here
in Minnesota as I think you and your corporation will find it rather inter-
esting and will agree that the method Ramsey is using in regamrds to the fire
call is by far the fairest method to all concerned.

Sincerely,

CITY OF RAMSEY

Lloyd G. Schnelle
City Administrator

I
I

LOS :pjc

Enclosure
