I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I

!

City Administrator Schnelle stated that in the area of the home occupation
they can't always find rent they can pay. Most all have financial problems.

Commissioner Muller said there is interest from the Jaycee Women in putting
together a brochure on business in Ramsey. He stated he will have them
contact Commissioner Fults.

Commissioner Sentryz said he knows times are real tough as he knows several
people who can't even pay $125 a month for storage area which is about the
size of a triple car garage.

Commissioner Fults asked if someone came in and wanted to build a shopping
mall, where would the City suggest it be built? We need an eight to ten
year plan.

C~ty Administrator Scbnelle stated the City is prezoned. If it would fit
into a zoned area it would be all right.

Commissioner Schmidt said we need more zoned for a shopping center on
Highway #10.

Commissioner Muller stated that commercial rental space is also needed and
he'll have some available in a short time.

A general discussion followed regarding hos the City is zoned for business,
the location of business areas, how they determine location for business, etc.

Chairman Greenberg stated Ramsey should have something similar ~o 494 South.
We need an area to attract business to Ramsey.

A general discussion followed on business and what is readily available for
space to rent in Ramsey. Chairman Greenberg stated the tax factor is a
large deterrent on attracting.business here.

Commissioner Schneider asked if it is worse than Coon Rapids.

Chairman Greenberg stated that this is something for our Legislative Committee
to determine.

City Administrator Schnelle stated that Ramsey could offer lower taxes
than Coon Rapids. For one thing the sales tax on natural gas hits all
the residents of Coon Rapids. Sewer and water will be available soon to
Ramsey and then land in Coon Rapids would'be cheaper due to the cost of
construction.

The general concensus of the Economic Development Commission was to proceed
on the brochure concentrating on the type of areas in Ramsey (commercial,
semi-commercial and industrial). The committee is to continue work on this
project and report back.

CASE #3 - FINANCE

Commissioner Schmidt said they hadn't had a chance to meet as yet~ He
asked w~at the Committee was specifically looking for.

Commissioner Muller said to look for types of financing that would be available.

EDC/June 9, 1982
Page 3
