Chairperson Riley pointed out the crosswalk is marked but a crosswalk on a road with a speed
limit of 55 can be easily overlooked by drivers.
Councilmember Johns agreed the area may develop in time, and the City may want to develop a
way for people to cross safely.
Chairperson Riley asked the Committee members to draw up lists of items they would like to
discuss, or be updated on. He asked that staff could keep this list and let the Committee know
any updates or changes so the members can anticipate what will happen with the items at future
meetings.
Councilmember Johns said she would like to discuss the CIP and learn what is pertinent to this
group.
City Engineer Westby responded that can be reviewed at the March meeting before it is
presented to the Council.
Chairperson Riley commented he would like to be updated on the item brought to the Committee
a few months ago regarding stormwater drainage and flooding issues.
Councilmember Shryock asked to keep updated on the planning for trail maintenance.
Councilmember Johns noted the trail maintenance policy had been discussed.
Chairperson Riley stated the strategic connections for trails need to be discussed.
City Engineer Westby confirmed these items will be brought back to the Committee for
updating. He said a Stormwater Pond Maintenance Policy will also be coming to this body for
discussion. He stated the Engineering interns gathered GPS points last summer on all City trails
to allow staff to prepare horizontal and vertical alignments for each trail. The grades and types
of pedestrian ramps on each trail were also cataloged to allow a comprehensive City trail
database to be developed. The Trail Maintenance Policy will be developed from this database.
Councilmember Shryock stated a resident raised the issue of a segment of trail at Alpine Drive
that is difficult to maneuver. She suggested this issue stay on the list of items to watch and
conduct updates on.
Chairperson Riley suggested the planning for the crosswalk on TH 47 to Nowthen Boulevard be
added to the list.
City Engineer Westby responded this will be worked on in the spring. Staff will get plans from
Mn/DOT, and bring the item to the Council for approval.
Chairperson Riley stated he would like to be updated on the summer construction schedule,
including seal-coating, and other city-related construction.
City Engineer Westby replied this can be on the agenda for the next meeting.
Public Works Committee/ February 16, 2016
Page 4 of 5
