Area 612, 291-6359 The plan will serve as the Region's "208" water quality plan required by federal statute, and as the development guide and policy Plan on sanitary sewers mandated by state law. I I I It marks the completion of several years of study to identify the most appropriate construction alternatives for sewage treatment plants and certain interceptors (large intercommunity sewer lines) in the metropolitan sewerage system. The goals of the policy plan are to meet federal water quality standards, and to meet the regional sewer service needs of the Metropolitan Area to the year 2000. This document represents one portion of what will ultimately be a two-part plan on water resources management. This plan deals with "point" sources of water pollution,.specifieally sewage treatment plants and on-site disposal systems. The second part, still in preparation, deals with "nonpoint" sources, such as stormwater and snow melt runoff that carries pollutants into the Region's rivers~ lakes and streams.
