Schnelle
15153 Nowthn Blvd. NW
Ramsey, Minnesota 55303

State of Minnesota

Dear Mr. Schnelle:

Thanks for your letter regarding workers' compensation. I have
shared your comments with those legislators who were working for
agreement on a bill that would make significant refoms in the
current law and yet pass over the strong opposition of the leadership
of the AFL/CIO.

Unfortunately, the influence of labor was so strong that the
workers' compensation bill that did pass almost totally ignored the
Markman Commission proposals and, instead, represented the position
of the union leaders. Thus, the bill passed with only DFL legislators
voting for .it and all the Independent-Republicans voting against it.
Hopefully, the Governor will veto it.

Again, thank you for your comments. Our job.now is to elect a
legislature and Governor in ~ovember that will accomplish the
reforms early in 1983.

With best regards.

COMMITTEES · Elections& Reapportionment , Finance · Public Employees and Pensions
· Rules and Adminislration
SI:.RVING , Corcoran.
