I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

TO:

FROM:

RE:

DATE:

City Administrator

Building Official

Quotations on Energy Saving Items

March 17, 1982

Quotations were received March 17, 1982 until 2:00 P.M. for six items
that would help conserve energy at the City Hall. The response to the
bids was ve~y poor with only one bidder on some of the items.

The fo]]ow~ng are the items and the various bid amounts with my
recommenda t ions:

Item #1 - Storm Panels - Rear of Lobby Area

There was only one bidder on this item which was received from Heat Mizer
Glass, Inc. Their bid was in the amount of $784.00. They also submitted
an alternate, which in my opinion would probably be more practical. It
cost considerably more $1,616.OO but would not require removal and clean-
ing as it is thermal-add-a-pane which would give us a permanent tripple
glazing.

They also submitted a second alternate for the door which has only a single
glazing. THey would convert this to an insulating glass for $415.O0 while
this does seem expensive, it is also an area where there is considerable
heat loss and would, therefore, probably be quite practical.

Item #2 - Complete Air Lock - Main Entrance

Again, there was only one bidder, Heat Mizer Glass, Inc. for this item.
The bid, as we expected was quite high because of the amount of glass
required to maintain the aesthetics. The total bid is $3,160.OO and I
don't think this is practical. However, in future years with higher
energy costs, it will in all likelihood pay for itself. It's just that
it will take a long period of time.

Item #3 - Replace Thermostats in Fire Barn

There was two bidders for this item with Lehn Electric being low in the
amount of $239.00. THis was to install four thermostats in the fire
barn area which amounts to $59.75 each. There is a fifth thermostat
in the hose tower that should also be replaced which would be a total
price of $298.75. The second bidders bid was $300.00 for the replacement
of four thermostats.
