Case #2: Consider Authorization to Hire a Public Works Maintenance Worker <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed stated this case needs to be pulled, as Mr. Moen has contacted <br />thc City to state he cannot accept the position. It can be replaced with the consideration to hire <br />another Public Works Maintenance Worker, Michael Berge. This will leave one Public Works <br />Maintenance Worker position open. Human Resources Reed explained in February 2004, the <br />Public Works Maintenance position was advertised. Approximately 90 applications were <br />received and a total of fourteen candidates were interviewed. Based on the interview panel's <br />review, staff is recommending that Michael Berge be hired for the Public Works Maintenance <br />Worker position at a starting wage of $16.03/hr, plus benefits. Mr. Berge's appointment is <br />contingent upon successful completion of criminal background and reference checks and passing <br />a pre-employment physical and drug screen. With Council approval, Mr. Berge's start date will <br />be on or near June 1, 2004. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to recommend Michael Berge <br />fbr the position of full-time Public Works Maintenance Worker at a starting wage of $16.03/hr, <br />plus benefits contingent upon successful completion of criminal background and reference <br />checks, a pre-employment physical, and a drug screen. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Cook, Mayor Gamec and Councilmember Pearson. <br />Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Chairperson Cook asked if there is a list that can be used to determine the <br />next choice in the candidates that were interviewed for the remaining open position.
