Mr. Cox replied that the County should take some initiative with the State. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that Ramsey is not a separate problem, that these problems <br />are State wide. <br /> <br />Mr. Phillips noted that the only thing you read in papers about Ramsey is <br />the dump site and lawsuits. Mr. Phillips stated that something that should <br />be thought about is when businesses are no longer here, the value of property <br />and homes won't be here either. Mr. Phillips stated that his business thrives <br />off of large corporations like CDC and Honeywell and those large corporations <br />are moving out-of-State. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that local officials are aware of the problem and when <br />they confront State officials, they deny there is a problem. Educating the <br />public to the fact that con~mercial/i'ndustrial tax base is needed takes a long <br />time. If this City doesn't allow growth to occur, the taxes will increase <br />sharply. The City is contemplating allowing multiple dwellings for tax base <br />just to hang on. <br /> <br />Mr. Phillips stated that if the jobs are not here, you can't generate taxes <br />and if a company is not prosperous there is no growth or opportunity for <br />anybody. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that this Council is getting a lot of pressure for "No <br />Growth" <br /> <br />Mr. Cox stated that there is an organization in Ramsey trying to prevent <br />much needed growth in Ramsey and members of Council that won't take initiative <br />to provide for the future viability of this community. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Reimann and seconded by Counci!member Sorteberg to <br />adjourn the Board of Review. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Sorteberg, Reimann, <br />Schlueter and Van Wagner.
