Councilmember Shryock stated the trail then goes from the Trott Brook to Tiger Street so
currently, there are two uncompleted segments.
Councilmember Johns asked whether the City should consider a trail project with the County.
Councilmember Shryock stated with the improvements Anoka County is making over Trott
Brook, it may be a good section to consider for completion.
Councilmember Johns asked City Engineer Westby to check on this option with Parks and
Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood.
The Committee discussed the trail alignment.
Councilmember Shryock stated it makes more sense to have a crossover at Central Park and then
connect to the north side at Trott Brook.
Informational; no action required.
5.03: Review Future Topics Calendar
City Engineer Westby stated staff will keep the project calendar updated and include the topic of
long-term water supply. He stated the water fund balance is slipping a little so the water rates
may not be where they need to be. He explained the water rates are collecting funds for a future
water treatment plant but perhaps that should be reconsidered based on updated census data and
growth projections. City Engineer Westby stated if desired, staff will continue to update the
calendar for consideration at by the Public Works Committee.
The Committee agreed.
Chairperson Riley stated he sees no problem waiting on the water studies because that action will
be required by someone else's actions. He noted the last water study was out of date upon
receipt.
Councilmember Johns asked if water treatment is included in the Comprehensive Plan, which
will dictate some guidelines.
City Engineer Westby answered in the affirmative and agreed with the comment of Chairperson
Riley that the last water study did not provide the information desired. He stated staff and the
Council will talk about the issues that should be addressed in the next study before an RFP is
drafted.
6. COMMITTEE/ STAFF INPUT
Councilmember Johns asked if the Public Works Committee meeting can start at 5:30 p.m. and
what type of public notice would need to be provided.
Public Works Committee/ March 15, 2016
