lnver Grove Heights 2020 ComPrehensive Plan <br />Inver Grove Heights has development patterns that are somewhat unique for a City with a close <br />proximity to the urban cores of Minneapolis and St. Paul. With a population of about 30,000, <br />Inver Grove Heights has both established urban and rural development patterns and a developing ' <br />urban area. Unlike some suburban communities that have developed around a single theme or <br />identity, Inver Grove Heights has many diverse character eIements that form a Community With a <br />range of needs and expectations. Influences on this character include: <br /> <br />· The Mississippi River <br /> Turn of the century residential development <br /> Major freeway corridors <br />· An international airport <br />· Heavy industrial development <br />· Urban service availability historically controlled by the Metropolitan Urban Service Area <br /> (MUSA) <br />· A well organized urban area <br />· Rural residential development <br /> <br />The 2020 Comprehensive Plan contains a Vision Statement and Guiding Principles that pr ovide <br />support for this unique lifestyle that residents desire. The Vision Statement and applicable <br />Guiding Principle statements are as follows: <br /> <br />Vision Statement <br /> <br />Inver Grove Heights will be a community that maintains a unique position in the Twin Cities <br />area by providing a development pattern that accommodates both urban and rural lifestyles. <br /> <br />Future growth and development will reflect the heritage of the community. The city will ha~e <br />a quality built environment that respects and reflects its natural environment of open spaces, <br />rolling meadow, wooded areas, lakes and wetlands, lurer Grove Heights will accommodate <br />the needs o fits diverse population by providing a varie~, of housing types, employment <br />opportunities and a range of goods and services. <br /> <br />[nver Grove Heights will be an attractive, safe community that evokes a strong expression of <br /> community pride. <br /> <br />Guiding £rinciples <br /> <br />Maintain a Unique Identity - Jnver Grove Heights has evolved into a uniq~.te <br />communiw. , an element of pride to the City's residents. Factors that establish fnver <br />Grove Heights as a unique community inc&ding its sense of history, its location along <br />the Mississippi River and its natural features will be reflected in future growth. <br /> <br />Retain Rural Character - [river Grove Heights rural character is evident in the <br />deve!opment pattern that exists today.
