Based om the soil boring
information.~ it appears that the impermeable layer separating the sand
aquifers in the area is Located approximately 50-60 feet beneath the
surface of the ground a~ the proposed excavation site. Therefore,
excavation <o a depth of 30 feet as proposed should have little or no
impact on water levels im Lake Itasca.

We recommend that the City~ in its permit process, include provisions
for monitoring water levels in both bodies of water and one monitoring
well between the bodies of water to monitor impacts on groundwater
levels. We would be happy to provide suggested language and/or
standards if requested, No DNR permits are required for the
excavation unless dewate~ing for excavation would occur in excess of
10,000 per day or 1 mill:~.on gallons per year. Should those levels be
exceeded, a DNR Appropriations permit would be required as provided in
M.S. ~105.4'[.

Should you have any questions or need further assistance in this
matter, feel free to contact me.

Sincereily,/'?

Jo~ Linc Stine
Ar~ Hydrologist

cc: Pete Raatikka~ Hakanson Anderson & Associates
Dennis Peck, Northfork Development Inc.

L35/lkr

AN E~,)UAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
