Peter R. Raatikka 0uly 16, 1987 Page Two Si~ning - We plan to install white on green intersection signing on the T.H. 47 approaches to the 167th Avenue N.W. intersection. (Although not required, the new signs should improve driver awareness of the intersec- tion.) In addition, we recommend that Ramsey install a STOP AHEAD sign on 167th Avenue in advance of the T.H. 47 intersection. Crosswalks - No pedestrian patterns were observed that would warrant. installation of crosswalks although some pedestrian activity was obsep~ed. (Construction of the new shopping center at T.H. 47 could generate addi- tional pedestrian traffic that would warrant a crosswalk in the vicinity of Quicksilver Street but this is doubtful. If pedestrian activity de-- velops to the point where crosswalks are considered, we would recommend the city also consider construction of sidewalk. Turn Lanes - Neither accident history nor traffic volume appear to warrant turn lane construction at this time. It does appear possible though, that signals might be warranted in the future at the T.H. 47 intersection. Channelization (left and right turn lanes for all approaches) would prob- ably be necessary at that time. We would suggest that future channelization be kept in mind when providing access for development and that the entrance to the golf course be moved to line up with 167th Avenue N.W. In summary, we found no evidence of safety problems on 167th Avenue N.W. Speed patterns were consistent with the existing speed limit and few accidents have occurred.
